Drop the image in the tool above and pick the "3 across" preset. It cuts the picture into three equal vertical pieces and hands you all three, numbered in the order you should post them. For three horizontal bands, pick "3 down" instead.
Use a wide image, split it 2, 3, or 4 across, then attach the pieces to one post in order, piece 1 first. X shows a multi-image post as a swipe carousel, so the picture reads left to right as people swipe. Four images is the per-post maximum on X.
As a carousel. One image per slide at its own aspect ratio, the next slide peeking at the right edge, and Previous / Next arrows on desktop. Nothing is cropped, and the order you attach is the order people swipe. The preview in the tool above is that carousel, running on your own pieces.
Height. X caps how tall media gets relative to the post width, so a wide screenshot lands short and the detail is unreadable. Split it and each piece is a tall slide that fills that cap, roughly three times the height per piece on a 3-across split.
Split it 3 across, then post the pieces as three separate posts in reverse order, piece 3 first and piece 1 last. Instagram fills a profile grid newest-first, so posting in reverse is what makes the row read correctly.
No. The cuts are made on exact pixel boundaries, and the rounding is cumulative, so the pieces tile the original with nothing lost or repeated at a seam. Put them back side by side and you get the original image.
